Getting involved
Signing up for a project is the first step in your contribution to the Youth Day of Service;
- When you register as a volunteer for a project, you will be able to see certain details of the project including the location, name and email address of your team lead, a link to your project WhatsApp group, and a general link to the YDOS volunteers Telegram group. You will also get a confirmation email with all of the information above.
- Contribute to the planning and organising of your selected project by joining the whatsApp group via the link and engaging with fellow volunteers on the WhatsApp group
- Connect with other amazing volunteers by joining the YDOS Telegram group via the link shared in your email.
- Research on your project idea and share possible tips and ways it can be implemented.
- Do not share irrelevant/unnecessary broadcasts and information in the group. Only share what is important and required for your project.
- Get familiar with your project goals and objectives and participate actively.
- Know your project beneficiaries. Everyone counts!
- Encourage all volunteers in your project group to follow our safety guidelines.
- Get excited! Celebrate your wins and impact during and post YDOS.
- Say cheese! Share pictures and videos of your project activities by using the hashtag #YouthDayofService #Youth4SDGs and tag “@leapafrica” and “@youthdayofservice” on Instagram; “LEAP Africa,” on Facebook and “@LEAPAfrica” on Twitter. Check out our photography guide to become a PRO.
Teamwork…Dreamwork
- Work with your project lead and other volunteers to ensure the best outcomes of your project. Give it your best shot.
- Be a good team player and ensure that you commit to the successful planning and execution of the project.
- Engage actively in your WhatsApp group as this is where your roles and responsibilities will be communicated to you by your project lead.
- Inform your project lead about any issues or concerns that may likely affect your role as a volunteer.
- Ensure to stay safe during project implementation by using your face mask, hand sanitiser and observing social distance- a space of 2m between you and other people.
- Support your project lead on insights and resources needed for reporting the activities done while implementing your project. Your project lead will need to submit a report after your project is completed.
Managing donations
While championing your project, donations in kind or cash will come from individuals and organizations, and ensure to utilise all resources ethically. Always note that “transparency inspires confidence”. Other things to note are:
- Act with integrity, honesty, truthfulness and adherence to the absolute obligation to safeguard resources.
- Put philanthropic mission above personal gain.
- Inspire others through your sense of dedication and high purpose.
- Avoid the appearance of any criminal offence or misconduct.
- Encourage teammates to embrace and practise these ethical principles and standards.
- Assist your project lead in keeping good and transparent records of all donations.
