The Memories of every event are evidence that the event was actually organized. Just like photos, videos are also a great way of creating memories. Please find below some tips for taking memorable videos with your mobile phone or digital camera
- Before you take any videos or video interviews, it is important that you ask for permission from the interviewee or the participants before filming.
- Participants being filmed should be made fully aware that the footage will be used online and published on several social media platforms.
- Record highlights of your project. Examples are the distribution of relief packages to members of a community, a facilitator giving a lecture, youth cleaning up an environment, Oba of Ooni of Ife visiting a project site or addressing the volunteers, and so on.
- Ensure that your camera is set at the highest available quality. You can do this by changing the camera setting on your phone to one of the two standard settings for shooting a video – 1080p at 24fps and 1080p at 30fps.
- Avoiding zooming in while shooting a video, it reduces the video quality. If you don’t have a smartphone with optical zoom, get as close to your subject as possible. Details are great for social media.
- Don’t record vertical/portrait videos, kindly turn your phone to landscape mood to get the best horizontal videos.
- Lighting – when shooting outdoors, use natural lighting (The Sun) because it is great and the most affordable way of recording high-quality videos. Make sure the sun is behind you and lighting up your subject(s).
- Avoid adding effects, filters, speed overlays, or geofilters to your video.
- Record videos of not more than 3 minutes long to ensure that it is easily uploaded on all social media platforms.
- Don’t forget to save your recorded video(s) properly on your mobile or digital camera.
- In a situation where you need to take a lengthy video, use both hands to hold your smartphone as you record the video. Using a tripod will stabilize your footage and help in creating a High-Quality video.
- Avoid sending or sharing videos that have already been sent to Facebook or WhatsApp – These social media reduce the quality of the videos.
- Get people excited by sharing your project in action on social media; use the hashtag #YouthDayofService #Youth4SDGs and tag “@leapafrica,” on Instagram; “LEAP Africa,” on Facebook and “@LEAPAfrica” on Twitter.
