Dos and Don’ts of YDOS

Please follow our guidelines on how to create a memorable experience for you and fellow volunteers as you prepare for YDOS:

Do:

  • Demonstrate LEAP Africa’s RISE values
  • Respect: Be respectful of the cultural, religious and other differences of your project team members and of the people you intend to serve. Be courteous and considerate to all.
  • Integrity: Demonstrate transparency and truthfulness in all your dealings.
  • Synergy: YDOS projects are supposed to be team-led, therefore, involve all volunteers adequately in  the planning and implementation of the project.
  • Excellence:  Put in your best and go the extra mile to deliver an outstanding YDOS project.
  • Plan and implement a project that is achievable within your team’s financial capacity.
  • Respect your beneficiaries.
  • Carry your fellow volunteers along in all your project activities.
  • Be accountable to LEAP Africa by submitting your project report on time.
  • Send all enquiries about the Youth Day of Service to ydos@leapafrica.org
  • Avoid any conflict and quarrel with fellow volunteers.
  • Be punctual to your project location.
  • Stay safe! Wear a face mask, covered shoes and carry along other safety kits.
  • Practice social distancing and encourage other volunteers to do the same.
  • Take pictures or videos of you and other volunteers in action.
  • Be responsible for your health and safety as LEAP Africa will not be held liable for any injuries or accidents during your participation in YDOS.

Dont:

  • Use LEAP Africa’s identity to solicit funds for any project.
  • Conduct your project in violent or conflict-affected areas.
  • Make a volunteer feel bad if they were unable to follow through with your project.
  • Assume that volunteers understand the impact of their work, why they are doing it, or what they are supposed to be working on. Always communicate the details of a project.
  • Overwork or overload your volunteers. Make it fun!
  • Walk alone at any point while executing your project. Walk in groups!
  • Be careless with your personal belongings, health and safety.
  • Place your phones, other devices, purse, etc. carelessly or in the care of a stranger.
