The following are some project ideas organized by the Sustainable Development Goal they address. The Sustainable Development Goals also called Global Goals are 17 in number and target different issues that countries in the world are working hard to solve by 2030 (yes, in 10 years) to make life better for everyone. Goal 1: No Poverty
- Collect food, clothing items etc. and donate to needy people in your community
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
- Organize a food drive- cook food and serve to those in need
- Educate people on avoiding food waste
- Organize a food drive- reach out to restaurants to donate leftover food to those in need
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
- Organize a health campaign to sensitize people about different health issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health issues or reproductive health
- Organize a fitness class (make sure to observe social distancing!)
- Donate sanitary products to girls in need
- Organize an awareness campaign to speak out against drug use
- Educate women and men in your community about the signs and symptoms of common types of cancer and what to do
- Donate items to a psychiatric facility
- Educate people on common disabilities and how to support person’s living with disabilities
- Teach on how to eat healthy on a budget
Goal 4: Quality Education
- Renovate a classroom, library, sickbay
- Paint a school block
- Restock a school library with books
- Create fun and exciting educational posters for students in a public primary or secondary school
- Collect and donate used but still functioning digital devices to a public primary or secondary school
- Donate learning materials such as pens, notebooks, textbooks to public schools
- Teach a free class (physical or online) to people who might not be able to afford such training. If your class will be physical, practice social distancing and necessary precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic
Goal 5: Gender Equality
- Organize an awareness campaign to address gender stereotypes
- Organize an awareness campaign to speak up against gender-based violence
- Organize an awareness campaign to speak up against sexual harassment and abuse
- Educate people on women’s rights and importance of gender equality
- Organize a leadership training for females
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
- Plan a neighborhood clean up
- Organize an awareness campaign on hygiene in your community
- Organize an awareness campaign on water conservation
- Plan a beach cleanup
- Organize an awareness campaign on proper waste disposal
- Renovate a toilet in a public school
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- Organize an awareness campaign on energy management
- Donate clean cooking stoves to a community in need
- Install solar panels in a public secondary school to power their borehole
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Organize an awareness campaign on child labour
- Organize an awareness campaign on labour rights
- Plan a mentoring programme or training programme for recent graduates
- Train youth on job readiness skills such as how to write a CV and cover letter, interview tips, how to dress for success
- Teach a class on digital marketing/digital jobs
- Teach a class on personal financial management
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- Organize a contest to showcase innovative ideas to solve a challenge
- Plan a training to teach young people how to be innovative
- Plan a training to teach young people how to start their own businesses
Goal 10: Reduced Inequality
- Organize an awareness campaign to speak up against discrimination
- Donate food items, clothing etc. to an orphanage or old people’s home
- Teach young people how to make reusable sanitary towels
- Make a pledge to reduce inequality in your organization
- Raise funds and donate to a home, centre, orphanage or nonprofit of your choice
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Distribute food, clothing or hygiene items in a slum
- Organize an awareness campaign to educate people about keeping their environment clean
- Teach people how to grow food with limited resources and space
- Plant trees
- Organize a cleanup- in a school, estate or to clean a drainage
- Organise a ‘clean the drainage’ drive, in flooded and flood-prone areas
- Donate waste bins to community centres, hospitals and orphanages
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- Educate people about how to avoid food wastage at home
- Teach farmers how to avoid waste
- Teach people about reusable products and recycling in order to reduce plastic waste
- Teach on how to eat healthy on a budget
- Build a food preservation tank/silo for farmers in your community
Goal 13: Climate Action
- Educate people about the importance of recycling, how to recycle and where to take their recyclables
